Andrew Allan James is a producer, writer/actor, and dancer. A child of Jamaican immigrants, Andrew was born in NYC, raised in OC, pit-stopping in Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale along the way. Attracted to performance early on, Andrew was extended a scholarship by the Dance Theatre of Harlem at the age of 11. He later danced his free time away at Stanford University while earning his bachelor’s degree in Economics. Immediately upon graduation, he began his career as a professional dancer, training under Emmy award-winning choreographer, Tessandra Chavez (SYTYCD, Dancing with the Stars), and became a member of world-renowned hip hop dance team, Kaba Modern (MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew). He also appeared in numerous music videos (Alicia Keys, Brandy, Dawn Richard) and live performances.
After booking a national Target commercial, Andrew made his acting debut starring as Issa Rae’s coworker nemesis in the first episode of The Misadventures Of Awkward Black Girl. He continued as a series regular for two seasons and later appeared in episodes of Insecure, The Neighbors, and Rae’s Fruit podcast. Andrew has also acted in award-winning short films, A Kid And His Panda (Energa Camerimage) and I Hurt Too by Oscar-winning director, Rayka Zehtabchi. With his series, Larry & Lucy, co-starring Sujata Day, Andrew began writing his own stories. His TV pilot, Youngins, focusing on the lives of three gay men of color in their 30’s, garnered him a finalist award in the LGBT Toronto Film Festival. Andrew has also produced viral content which has amassed over 12 million views on YouTube.
