Katherine Propper is a film director and screenwriter who was born and raised in Los Angeles. Her debut feature film, Lost Soulz, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and was released in theaters in 2024 by Kino Lorber. Her short film, BIRDS, garnered significant acclaim, winning the Grand Jury Prize at AFI Fest, a Special Jury Award for Vision at SXSW, and a Special Jury Prize in the International Competition at Clermont-Ferrand in France. Additionally, "Birds" was recognized as a finalist for The Wrap’s Shortlist and subsequently featured in The New Yorker, earning a nomination as one of Short of the Week’s Best Live Action Shorts of 2023. Another of her short films, Street Flame, was showcased at the Tribeca Film Festival and is currently available for streaming on Omeleto. Katherine has a passion for blending fictional and non-fictional elements in her work, drawing inspiration from her experiences, including her time on the editing team for director Terrence Malick. She holds an MFA in Film Directing from the University of Texas at Austin and a BA in Art History from Georgetown University.
