He spent his childhood in East Germany, where his father was the commandant of the city of Fürstenberg. He studied at the Rostov Higher Military Command and Engineering School and at the Faculty of Philosophy of Rostov State University. In 1979 he graduated from the directing department of VGIK. In the 90s he became involved in political activities. Founder and permanent leader of the People's National Party (PNP).
