Elias Koteas

Today's actor is a Greek Canadian born in 1961. Son to a mechanic and a hat maker, he speaks fluent Greek and went to school in Montreal and New York. In New York he studied acting under Ellen Burstyn and Peter Masterson.

He first came to my attention in The Prophecy, pictured below with Viggo Mortensen:

He also played prominently in The Greatest Game Ever Played with Shia LaBeouf as the reluctant father:

He has played major roles in film from 1997 up to the present day, but oddly enough, he is often mistaken for television actor, Christopher Meloni (from Law and Order: Special Victims Unit).

You can watch him on the television series Chicago P.D.

Gil Bellows

Pictured above is today's actor, in one of my favorite characters from the movie Shawshank Redemption. This role, Tommy, was in fact this actor's first film role, and he did an amazing job.

You may not know him by name, but I bet you recognize the face. Not just from this role, but from his many television and film appearances. Born in Canada, he studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in L.A.

Recently he came to my attention while I was giving the show Ascension a look. I had to look him up, and once I realized he had played Tommy, I had to watch at least three more episodes. There were twenty years between Shawshank and Ascension!

Today's actor is Gil Bellows and when he isn't appearing on film or television, he spends time with his wife Rya Kihlstedt and their two children. Be sure to check him out in The House at the End of the Street with Elisabeth Shue.

Hiroyuki Sanada

So today we are going to talk about this guy:

The picture above is from his appearance in the original Japanese version of The Ring (called Ringu). Born in 1960 in Tokyo, Japan, he started his martial arts training at age 11, hoping to become an action movie star. Instead, he has established himself as a character actor capable of playing a wide variety of roles.

This is him in 47 Ronin:

Recognize him now? Here he is in The Wolverine:

Indeed, today's actor is Hiroyuki Sanada. Good friends with Jackie Chan, he didn't appear alongside Chan until Rush Hour 3. Did you know he received an honorary MBE (Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) for his performance in King Lear with the Royal Shakespeare Company?

Be sure to check him out in Mr. Holmes.
